How we can help you

Sports Injury Assessment & Treatment – £60

Injuries are very common when regularly taking part in sports and exercise. If left untreated they will take longer to heal and will increase the risk of reoccurring, therefore it is important to seek the correct treatment early to speed up recovery and reduce the risk of re-injury.

As a sports injury expert, I will create a treatment and rehabilitation programme tailored to your individual needs using a combination of sports therapy techniques and rehabilitation exercises.

Rehabilitation can take up to 6-8 sessions depending on the severity of the injury. Rehabilitation therapy and exercises are key components to recovery and minimising the risk of re-injury. Exercises are prescribed to ensure a speedy recovery.

This service includes a full assessment of your injury followed by the appropriate treatment, which may include massage, cupping, western medical acupuncture, instrument assisted soft tissue mobilisation (IASTM), electrotherapy, cold therapy (Squid) and rehabilitation exercises.

I may not be able to treat all injuries and conditions. If any red flags flag up during our consultation, I may ask you to see your GP or refer you to someone who may be able to help.

  • Rotator Cuff Injuries
  • Tennis Elbow
  • Golfers Elbow

  • Neck pain
  • Upper and lower back pain
  • Sciatica

Sports Deep Tissue Massage: £30-£85

Everyone can benefit from a sports massage not just athletes. Deep tissue massage helps reduce stresses and strains from work, relieve tight muscles, help recover quicker and can also help prevent injuries. This service also includes instrument assisted soft tissue mobilisation (IASTM) and cupping. You can opt out of these techniques although you are more likely to have better results with a combination of all three.

Benefits of a Stryde Sports Deep Tissue Massage:

  • Increased Mobility: Massage increases mobility of your joints by lengthening and stretching your muscles. It also increases the synovial fluid within your joints, helping reduce friction. Keeping your joints moving nice and smoothly.
  • Speeds up recovery: Massage allows injured or damaged muscles, tendons and ligaments to heal correctly. Muscle fibres run in certain directions, massage guides these new fibres in the correct direction, ensuring a quality repair and reducing scar tissue. So less time out of doing what you love.
  • Improved Performance: Playing sports, training, running and other types of physical activity damages muscle fibres. As previously mentioned, damaged muscles need to heal correctly, by realigning scar tissue and improving the quality of soft tissue will improve performance. If you want to run faster, lift heavier jump higher, improve your golf swing whatever your sport or activity a Stryde sports deep tissue massage will help you improve your performance.
  • Increased Lymph System Activity: The lymphatic system helps flush the body of toxins, waste and other unwanted materials. Massage will improve circulation and reduce DOMS (delayed onset of muscle soreness) by collecting excess fluid returning to our blood and fighting off any nasty illnesses on the way. One of the reasons why you feel thirsty after massage.
  • Feel good factor: Massage releases endorphins which make us feel better and also helps reduces pain. Who doesn’t want to feel good?
  • Stress Relief: Massage reduces the production of stress hormones running through your body. This is important as it reduces unwanted injury and illness.

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation (IASTM)

IASTM techniques are designed to produce a healing response from the body to an affected area. Scrapping tissues with an IASTM tool causes microtrauma to those tissues, breaking down capillary beds in order to elicit a nutritional healing response. Mechanical changes at a cellular level also occur depending on the pressure applied, breaking down adhesions and normalising scar tissue as much as possible.

Conditions that may benefit from an IASTM treatment:

  • Tendinopathy
  • Ligament sprains
  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Myofascial Pain
  • Musculoskeletal imbalance

Risks associated with IASTM:

  • Bruising
  • Redness of the skin
  • Treatment can be painful
  • DOMS

Dry Vacuum Cupping

Cupping dates back around 5000 years and is one of the oldest forms of manual therapy. The basic application of cupping is by placing a glass or plastic cup onto the skin, in which a vacuum is created drawing up the skin, muscle and fascia up into the cup. This vacuum will be created with a hand suction pump and the pressure of the suction can be adjusted to the clients needs. Cupping is used in the treatment of many types of muscle tensions, including neck pain, shoulder pain, tight trapezius, lower back pain and plantar fasciitis.

Cupping therapy is not a suitable modality for people with:

  • Severe diseases such as cardiac failure, renal failure, ascites due to liver-cirrhosis and severe oedema
  • Haemorrhagic diseases such as allergic purpura, haemophilia and leukaemia
  • Dermatosis, destruction of skin or allergic dermatitis
  • Bruised, broken ulcerated or broken skin
  • Dislocations
  • Broken bones
  • Slipped disc
  • Those undergoing cancer treatments
  • Sunburn
  • Ruptured, ulcerated, inflamed skin
  • Hernia
  • Acute illness or fever
  • Bleeding disorders
  • Acute stages of Psoriasis, Eczema or Rosacea
  • Pregnant
  • Children under the age of 16
  • Low energy

Conditions Cupping can help with

  • Frozen Shoulder
  • Headaches
  • Lower back pain
  • Arthritis
  • Sciatica
  • Runners Knee
  • Recovery from injury
  • Any condition where muscular tension is a contributing factor

Cupping benefits

  • Improved local circulation
  • Pain relief
  • Detoxification
  • Improved lymphatic drainage
  • Increase in energy
  • Increased feelings of wellbeing

Cupping Marks

Cupping therapy in most cases will leave marks or perfectly circular bruises, which generally are not painful. If there is acidosis in the build up of metabolic waste, and/or compromised circulation, there will be a dark circle once the cup has been removed. The darker the mark the more congested the area. Most marks will fade in a day or two, although the darker ones may take a week or more to disappear.

Please consult with your GP if you are unsure of cupping therapy.

Squid (cold therapy): £45

Cold sequential intermittent compression wraps, helps with recovery, pain relief, acute/chronic swelling and tendinopathies. Squid narrows blood vessels decreasing blood flow, resulting in a reduction in swelling. The cold compression wraps also decrease skin temperature inducing an analgesic or numbing effect, which plays and important role in pain management.

Squid cold compression wraps are most beneficial within the first 24-48 hours of the acute stage of an injury, to prevent tissue damage or after 48 hours if inflammation persists. Squid can also be used after exercise to reduce pain, swelling or to ease muscle spasms.

Squid Compression wraps are not suitable as a treatment modality for people with:

  • Impaired circulation or ischemia
  • Absence of skin sensitivity (anaesthesia)
  • Vasospasm (Raynaud’s disease)
  • Open or Infected wounds
  • Hyper sensitivity to cold
  • Acute dermatitis or eczema

Please consult your GP if you are unsure

This treatment includes 15 min squid treatment followed by a massage, IASTM and sport tape.

Duration: 30-45 mins

Acupuncture (TCM): £55

Western medical acupuncture is a modern streamlined adaptation of the more traditional approach of Chinese medicine and is used against the background of clinical and research evidence.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is an ancient system which uses the theories of Qi, Meridians, Yin Yang and the 5 elements to stimulate the body’s ability to return to its balanced state.

In TCM it is believed illness and diseases are caused through the imbalances of yin yang in the body. Qi (chee) is energy, it is inherited from our parents and nature. Qi promotes the formation of blood and supports the metabolism of body fluids. It also helps regulate body temperature, acts like the immune system and transforms substances for metabolism for different types of Qi and blood.

A disruption in balance of yin yang can cause a deficiency in Qi impacting the main functions of Qi mentioned above. This may affect an individuals’ growth, the ability to regulate body temperature, the ability to transform substances and regulate the secretion and excretion of body fluids.

Acupuncture needles will stimulate the flow of Qi which circulates in channels of meridians within the body. The stimulation of relevant acupuncture points may free stagnation, reduce excess or increase Qi to the specific area or organ to help restore normal Qi flow and balance.

Conditions TCM can help with:

  • Disc Herniation
  • Sciatica
  • Stress/Anxiety
  • Headaches/Migraines
  • Toothaches
  • Neuralgia
  • Rib Pain
  • Muscular Chest Pain
  • Costochondritis
  • Back Pain
  • IBS
  • Acute upper arm pain
  • Arthritis

Please consult with your GP if you are unsure if acupuncture is a suitable treatment for you
